Margeurite Elicone, a San Diego Port District spokeswoman, has declared that the construction contract has been awarded to Jaynes Corporation for a new cruise ship terminal last week. Jaynes Corp., which has offices throughout the Southwest, will begin construction early next month.

With an estimated cost of more than $21 million, the new terminal will be built on Broadway Pier and is expected to be finished by 2011. Designed by Miami-based Bermello Ajamil & Partners, a 52,000 square foot cruise ship terminal is expected to be operational by that same year.

Cruise Ship Job Hunting
by cruise.ships.jobs on Jul.22, 2009, under Cruise Ship Jobs
So you want to work aboard in a cruise liner. That is definitely one of the most exciting places that you can work in. You get to travel around the world while earning big bucks. But do you know where to begin looking in order to get on board?
There are actually many ways that you can get a job on cruise ship. However, just like many other jobs, not all of them will guarantee you landing on the job. In order to find the most useful way, you need to know what these ways have to offer.
The first way that you can get a job listing for cruise ships is by directly inquiring with the cruise line company. The company includes a number for their personnel management department, which you can call to ask about job openings. This definitely is the surest way to get information, since the operators would be happy (most of the times) to assist you.
If you don’t have the time to call them, you can always email them, asking information about job openings. However, this is not as sure as calling them, as the email tends to be buried under other mail and be unanswered for more than a month at times. Some companies also process information requests through postal mail. This one also has good results, since very often, the company sends the complete job listings already with an application form already included, which you can immediately use.
One thing that will probably put you off this method is the cost. Save for sending an email, this would cost you a few bucks worth. And it would also be bothersome to call every company just for inquiry. The next best thing that you can do is by looking in advertisements. Newspapers carry tons of these ads and there are some papers that you can buy which are solely dedicated to classified ads.
Internet job sites are also very much useful when looking for cruise ship jobs. One thing good about these sites is that the jobs are listed under specific categories, so you would have to browse through several pages of classified ads just to find the job you are looking for. Also, these are constantly updated on a daily basis, this means that you get the latest job listings as early as possible. Another thing that you would probably like is that you could immediately send your application after reading the ad, since most of these sites have a resume creator and uploader feature.
And of course, there is the job fairs. Job fairs are either organized singly by one company or by several ones. One thing about fairs is that they are a rather tedious affair since you have to walk around and line up for several hours just to be able to submit your resume. However, if you are patient, and lucky, enough, you could actually get a job right that day. Many participating companies often offer interview to applicants, and in some cases, actually hire them right on the spot.
As you see, cruise ship jobs hunting can be undoubtedly hard. However, just like any other thing that you do, patience is the virtue here. If you do get that job you want, its now time to patiently prepare for your new found work.
